Page BleedAny object that comes within 2mm of the edge should be designed to extend off the page as shown below. This is referred to as "image bleed", and it is very important for ensuring your finished products all look consistant. We require 3mm bleed, though any excess bleed is perfectly acceptable (it will be reduced to 3mm automatically). Let's take a look at an example, below is a closeup of the bottom-right corner of a page. The black marks (trim marks) indicate where the two cuts will be made to form this corner of the page.
Image bleed is necessary due to the nature of high volume printing and finishing. If a page edge has no bleed some of your finished items may have a thin white line which can be uneven and detracts from a clean print. This is particularly important in any booklet or job where pages sit inside each other, because the final trim is made once the booklet is assembled, making every inner page slightly smaller than the page it sits inside. Page Bleed & PDF filesIf you are supplying a PDF file please ensure that the PDF size is larger than the finished size, with trim marks visible (as shown below).
